I guess it's #introduction time 😁

I'm originally from Singapore, but moved to Naarm (Melbourne, Australia) in 2004.

I have been in the #hospitality industry for 20yrs.
The last 15 of which have been spent in the kitchen as a chef. I post about #food a lot 😏
So I've been sick at home for the past two days and going stir crazy.

Decided to go through my cutlery drawer, because why not?

Here are some spoons that I have *accidentally* stolen from different kitchens over the years.

On special this weekend is a whole bunch of stuff that I needed to clear from our coolroom 🤣

Corn & cheese fritters with green apple gazpacho, fried egg, grilled zucchini, crispy rice vermicelli and a petit salad of watercress, apple and pickled shallots.

Fritters are gf. Made with tapioca flour.

Feel free to save & use.

We are sad today.
An elderly customer has passed away.
Their family just came in to let us know, and to thank us for taking care of him.

So, our house got broken into this morning.

They got my husband's playstation, his car keys and our spare house keys before the dogs woke us up.

The best part? This happened a couple of hours before we had to open up the cafe 🙃
(which is literally just up the road from our house)

So the news about a Singapore political party coming out (haha) as anti-LGBTQ is very timely because the ruling party is likely going to field a LGBTQ activist. She will likely win due to the ‘unique’ traits of our political system (you vote for a group of people rather than an individual, most […]

Sorry I can't come to the phone right now ... I've run away to join the circus.

I will never understand people who get off from being patronising and condescending to hospo workers.

Get over yourself.
Your $15 does not entitle you to belittle me or my staff.

And please don't ever darken the door of our establishment ever again.

Today for our little act of resistance, we are silently dosing local conservatives (via house-made fig and honey muffins) with:

Single origin ho-mo honey 😏

Reading through reviewers comments on my recently accepted paper, and this one sent me 🤣:

First academic paper accepted with minor revisions 🤸‍♀️

Am very excited to get this paper (and my work) out there!

Probably won't be published till later in the year tho. 🤣

I'm having a fantastic day off.

Our coolroom at the cafe is on the fritz (needs a new evaporative unit and fans~$4k), and my car battery just died.

Don't get into the hospitality business unless you really love it, because some days, that's the only thing that will keep you going.

Millennial here.

When did it become normal for people to make restaurant bookings via DMing on social media (FB &insta)???

Also why do people assume that social media is monitored 24/7 and expect an immediate response??

American individualism hinges on a huge portion of the population not counting as people. Behind all the "self made" white men are dozens of women and poc that they stepped on to make it to the top
Individualism is such a stupid philosophy because like have you ever had to do something really hard completely by yourself. It's an absolute disaster. I can't put a fitted sheet on my mattress alone without thinking about killing myself at least twice you think you're gonna survive climate collapse

My column. Fire at will, see if I care.
It's time to shut down greyhound racing, for good.
It's being banned all over the world, but in NSW they are propping it up!
Why are the politicians so weak-kneed on it?
www.smh.com.au/sport/kiwis-...
Kiwis are brave enough to ban greyhound racing. Why aren’t we?
The NSW government tried to ban greyhound racing, but backed down. Now New Zealand have made the decision.

Was at a thing last night where we were asked to share our names and one 'weird' food that we ate recently.

A few people mentioned foods from my region of origin (e.g. tapioca pudding and mango sticky rice) and I guess it gave me a bit of an ick.

Tbf they were put on the spot, so not their fault

When you put a weekend special on to clear some stock... But it sells out before 10 on a Saturday..

And then you have to go to the shops to buy more of said stock so that you have more to sell on Sunday.. 😑

I haven't talked much about my research on here as I'm kinda on an extended leave of absence to focus on the cafe.

I started reading some of my past writing this week to get my mind back in the game, and boy have I a newfound respect for past me.

It's gonna take awhile to get back in the zone 😬

Bought this functioning mechanical snack bar for a hundred bucks off a local buy swap swell page yesterday.

I am beside myself with joy.

Can't wait to clean it up and put some tasty things in there!

Ok my arms and abs are in so much pain, but that was the most fun I've had in awhile.

Really looking forward to the rest of the term!

I love learning new things and discovering what my body can do. 🤸‍♀️
Heading in for my first circus aerials class 😁

Dear Melbourne coffee-drinkers,

A 'Magic' is defined by its ratios.

If you order it 'topped up', it ceases to be a magic.

It becomes a double ristretto flat white with a fancy made-up name that makes you feel special.
