After each wave of immigration in US history we had an economic boom. Even in the modern age, our economy was the "envy of the world' up until this year because of how dynamic it was. That comes from being a nation of immigrants.

I find him extremely annoying and pompous on a lot of things. But the unhinged takes on him and straight up lies is vastly worse.

The logistics of taking over America are exponentially beyond the current admin, thankfully. Doesn’t mean they can’t do a shitload of damage or crash it, but control it they sure as shit can’t pull off.

The suburban should have the GOP freaking out. Unless they want to shutdown polling stations in neighborhoods that could possibly go for them. And that’s the thing - it’s a mixed enough bag that any voter suppression there hurts the GOP.

And that’s the caveat on Haliburton I left out - it’s not like a ton of other companies could have done what they did. I see it more as an opportunity to make profit rather than a driver.

I hate to break it to you, but ideology drives most wars with resources being secondary. The Venezuelan situation is truly a resource situation with no ideology beyond self-interests, but that simply doesn’t describe most conflicts of the last 100 years.

I mean, I guess if you ignore history, context, writings of the times, evidence on the ground, and how most nations will have some sort of resource, yes.

Perfect example - Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The natural resources are a consolation prize. The real motive is the ideology of Russian imperialism. Even there resources are secondary, if even that.

Ideology plays into a lot of foreign actions, more so than resources.

“No war for oil” worked as a slogan, but there’s no evidence it was a war for oil. Haliburton made bank, so did private contractors. But it actually was a war of ideology. Not everything is boiled down to resources.

It wasn’t though and there’s no evidence to indicate it was. It’s a popular theory, but the evidence isn’t there. Exploitation happened, just not in oil.
