not at all lol, i'm already a pgy-3 in pathology!
didn't really want to do internal med since it's not exactly my vibe, you get a bit more underlying biology in path and i think that's neat

lol too late for that i'm already going into path (and down the clin micro route, love them bugs)

almost everyone that does (mushroom) mycology learns it independently of the medicine, and I think that's mostly a good thing, you get better fundamentals and leave the correlation up to the physician

if you ever want to level up try baijiu
the cheap ones are rocket fuel to get blasted on, and the nicer ones can be pretty enjoyable depending on the style you prefer, and especially with a good food pairing

what's your poison of choice btw >;3
November 26, 2025 at 1:58 PM
I could talk about them all day lol, it's a huge genus (like 1200+ species) with a ton of diversity. A lot of fun to identify, and all us Amanita specialists are a pretty tight-knit group since we need to keep each other sharp in the emergency mycology world.
November 26, 2025 at 1:52 PM
Yeah in the right direction! Alpha-amanitin, inhibits RNA polymerase II.

You do have death caps (Amanita phalloides, introduced species) in the land down under, but also several related native species with the same toxicity (A. murinaster, marmorata, austrophalloides, etc).

hell yeah
ok level 10 time
a man comes into the ED and has sky high LFTs
yesterday he had severe GI upset 8 hours after eating a mushroom under a tree in his backyard

what is the name of the toxin and what is the specific mechanism?
November 26, 2025 at 1:45 PM
since you're doing liver rounds let's do liver trivia
name charcot's triad
November 26, 2025 at 1:40 PM
Hm, interesting, too bad it doesn't seem to hit the gram-negatives.

If it does pan out in the end, I suspect it won't see a ton of use except in some last resort situations, since the vast majority of clinical MRSA isolates are vanc-susceptible, and most VRE also has other options.

aaaaaaa this is so cute
October 24, 2025 at 2:31 AM
hell yeah!
are you going to be at asm microbe?
October 18, 2025 at 3:53 AM
Of course there's also going to irl events (which can be hit or miss too), but that's a lot more up-front time / money you often need to do so...
September 29, 2025 at 2:24 PM
I think it kinda depends on who you already know and what you want to do with your friends.
For me personally, I don't really make friends joining discords for things like a game or an artist I follow.
It's much easier joining a small discord for someone who's already your friend.

There's also combination meds like vicodin which contain acetaminophen in them, and people sometimes accidentally overdose since they didn't account for or weren't aware of the extra acetaminophen in the other med when also taking Tylenol.

Yeah, really, really well known cause of severe liver injury.
4g/day is like hospital dosing for short term.

AFAIK for home use, especially over long periods, the advisory is 2g/day.

make it anti-capitalist
September 9, 2025 at 3:41 PM
This happened to me too about a year ago, although I was at home and didn't notice anything.

So far nothing has changed other than them repaving the parking lot. Hopefully things are just business as usual for you as well.

I mean it depends on the mods, I've definitely seen some fashion stuff and the ever-present ACT noclippy etc, but I doubt there would be a problem unless you're a big streamer with someone out to get you.

Oh shit, hopefully at least the rear-ending is covered by the other person's insurance.

Sorry to hear that things are rough tiger. Hang in there!
