If you read this far, thank you. I just wanted to get these thoughts and this story out to the public. Remember to trust your instincts and in all your passions and hobbies, enjoy the people around you, especially those who lift you up. It's cliche, but I love this game and community. 🖤🤍💚

I played it on Friday and went 1-4, losing a lot to just getting flooded, but after seriously considered switching again. A good friend told me not to give in to recency bias, and less than 24 hours later I'm shaking hands with my finals opponent in the RCQ.

I thought it would be a fun budget deck. I did some testing hands and instantly fell in love. My go to deck before rotation was boros convoke and this just felt like a diet version, but with less inflection points since nearly everything could be cast at the end of my opponents turn.

- figure out decisions made by other people. I originally planned on running a list built around Firebender Ascension and Arabella. I couldn't sleep last Sunday night and started throwing as many functional copies of Resolute Reinforcements into a list on Archidekt on my phone...

The last bit of this is a little more technical and a bit of a humble brag: My dream always was to win with something I designed and honed. I think 'netdecking' is GOOD and absolutely a tool players should use. My favorite thing is brewing and building in the space and looking at other decks to-

And since my life is just an anime sometimes. The RCQ I won at was of course at my home store, surrounded by the same people who pushed me forward. Those who stuck around long after being eliminated, and those who will hopefully be joining me at the Regional Championship.

Reasonably I've spent the last two years (with a lil unemployment gap 🙃) fighting to qualify for a regional championship. Along the way I accomplished my original goal: meet new people, make new friends, the actual important long term result that goes beyond cardboard and lightning bolts to the face

What i didn't know was how extremely stacked Portland is with players, I'll simply point to the most recent Regional and Spotlight results, and how much representation we already have in this year and next year World Championship. This lit my spark much brighter and I fell right back into things.

After playing at least once at every LGS i could feasibly get to, I found my home at a store named Disc Heroes. Many of the players there had or were trying to qualify for RCs and beyond, and once they learned I used to play at bigger tournaments, began to convince me to do the same.

While I started playing Magic back in 2009, I stepped away from the competitive scene around 2015. The years during that time I met some of my closest friends and folks I still talk with daily. When I moved to Portland in 2023, I decided to play in tournaments again to socialize and meet other nerds
