3/4 Any arguments about the greater good were dismissed when the interim report concluded Stakeknife cost more lives than he saved. MI5 had previously claimed its role with Stakeknife was peripheral. That claim is no longer tenable.

2/4 Op Kenova has today published its final report on IRA operative Freddy Scappaticci, his role in providing intelligence to our security services and the role of security services in turning a blind eye to murders and kidnappings he was involved in.

2/2 But because they have able to retire they will face no scrutiny or sanction and the families and survivors will get no justice at all.

4/5 That AR was able to fall through every single crack, at every single point, is beyond comprehension and provides no reassurance whatsoever that this will not happen again.

3/5 There will always be troubled individuals. That is why we have so many agencies in place with specialist expertise to identify them and set in place the appropriate measures to manage the risks they present.

2/5 Whilst this has been a very short public inquiry, the catalogue of errors by all agencies involved, and the series of missed opportunities over 5 years to intervene and make a difference, is nothing short of devastating.
