Has anyone else gotten a paper rejection with no reviewer comments? I got one Friday and a colleague got one a few weeks back. Different publishers. When he queried it he was told they couldn't find reviewers. I am waiting to hear back from my query. Is this a thing!?!?!😑

1. Yes, that sounds like a normal aspect of any healthy intellectual field! It takes time for you to learn the nuance, the language, and the people of a new field, and then for them to learn about you.

2. Folks.... this is a statistical description of a trend, not a declaration of what you must do

Very happy to have contributed to this article. It's a topic I am very passionate about. We need to see significantly more translational and impact from all the investments in fundamental research. It is weird that many primary publications claim a big breakthrough, and then, nothing more happens!

Here's is my experience from the financial crisis of 2008 (and Covid). Even though the whole way we are doing and funding science has changed significantly, people's shortcuts for determining whether or not you are "succeeding" will take longer to recalibrate. /1
I wonder, for those of us on a tenure clock, how will this situation factor in?

We’re not playing the same game we set out to play.
