You can (often) tell AI by zooming on details and looking for bad proportions / impossible geometry.
Here's a (poorly done) owl from Gemini. Top of its head is misshaped, middle of its tail feathers are missing, there seems to be some brush strokes and see-through parts at the ends of its wings.
