In their defence, they actually perform pretty well against a Type 093 SSN.

Penetration of a air/sea/subsurface screen was an important part of their requirement.

Absolutely, but their budget was very constrained so they had to make a bunch of compromises on capability.

For every LCS program that suffers from complexity and Congressional meddling you get a Lewis and Clark T-AKE program delivered on time and well under budget.

The sexier the program, the worse it'll go for it.
