❌ Being outside of the EU has proved to be disastrous for our steel industry in a more protectionist world economic order.

Britain is isolated on the world stage and Brexit is to blame.

U.K. urged to follow the EU in imposing higher tariffs on imported products.

Incandescent. One of the best pieces I've read about what university means to people and their communities - and what will happen to a city and people after one closes. The *Labour* government and Jaqui Smith in particular should be ashamed of themselves and shamed into doing something. Deplorable.
‘If I think about what this means, I want to cry’: what happens when a city loses its university?
When Essex University’s Southend campus opened, it was a message of hope for a ‘left behind’ UK seaside town. Its closure will be felt far beyond its 800 students, some of whom will not get their degr...

“Not quite fair.”
What an irredeemable shitbag.

What would game theory say about all of this?

Morality faces an existential crisis: judges pre-warned to make the 'right' judgement; countries terrified of retribution if they tell the truth; no-one daring to sanction or simply shut down a company facilitating child porn. Meanwhile too many Americans are beaming, thinking 'this is great'.

So... any self-respecting judge would throw out the case against Maduro on account of its nonsensically spurious grounds for arrest. Which would make Trump's team look dumb. So a guilty outcome in a show trial is certain. Which makes the USA a corrupt backward country like Venezuela, no?

Americans, what have you done? And what will you do about it now? Nothing, presumably.

Amazing, the @dailymail.co.uk manages to publish an entire lengthy feature bewailing (!!!!) the exodus of Poles from Britain without once mentioning Brexit. Apparently this outcome (which is surely exactly what they campaigned for in 2016) is all the fault of Keir Starmer.

The great exodus: How Poles are ditching UK for their booming homeland
New statistics reveal that while 7,000 Poles arrived in the year ending last June, 25,000 returned home: a net outflow of 18,000. The UK's total Polish population has shrunk to 750,000.

The EU and Oz are doing a fantastic job reviewing the unfettered practices of social media and other internet operators. It's wholly to be expected that Google etc will scream and shout about 'stifling innovation' but I'm delighted that the industry is facing some much-needed controls at last.

Nigel Farage won't apologise for his history of racism because "if he apologised, he would be turning to his own support base and saying, ‘You’re all guilty too,'" a Reform source tells the Times.

So essentially he was a racist and he believes his supporters are racists too

Now that the OBR has backed Rachel Reeves, I see the 'discussion', according to the BBC, must turn to whether the affair has done her and Starmer damage. In other news, I am now trying to work out whether my failure to go for a walk this morning has caused the blister on my foot which isn't there.

@skysportpl.bsky.social can you enquire why, when play was stopped for 5 mins 30 secs for the Red Card incident (from whistle to whistle) and there were at least two other injury stoppages and numerous yellow cards, the ref only added on 5 mins and 10 seconds? Fans have been cheated.
