i still don't understand this sort of "heaven is guaranteed if you just believe in jesus" over the "do as much good deeds and virtues because you never know when you'll go". it's pretty fascinating and I'll probably need some research into it

Making it "voluntary" is probably worse cause they sure as hell will guilt trip you to oblivion. It's less cult-ish out of necessity and not because they're less lenient about the rules.

It still classifies as a cult, there is heavy emphasis on tithing and how not paying it is enough to cut you off the church (basically damned). No classic "give to the poor and needy and those in debt" like Judaism and Islam and some remaining "christians" air quotes cause kindness to gays is woke.
