Maybe you just think that because you conflated liberals with socialists.

10. "Courage is a muscle" - this is scary and we are going to feel scared and we should get comfortable with that, think about how we each usually react to situations (fight/flight/freeze/fawn) and expect to retreat into that, but visualize what it might look like to push outside our comfort zone

9. Union Migrante (at least) emphasizes that you are part of the "ojos," the neighborhood watch, as a peaceful observer who is there to record, warn others, slow things down, and de-escalate. They did not advise yelling at the cops or being aggressive

:: side note :: a running theme of this training was that every choice you make has pros and cons and none are perfect because these are all bad situations. Post the videos, don't post it, arguments for both. I'm personally going to try to only post short videos if I feel the need to post

8. Videos are a double edged sword because they can simultaneously contain evidence that helps the victim and something else that hurts them or a witness. Defense lawyers prefer they are not posted before lawyer can look at it. Obviously there are good reasons to post them too.

7. If you can, film in short segments - not sure why but I suspect it could be because of #8....

6. The point of filming is to hold agents accountable, gain ammo for victim's lawyer to use later in court (either to defend them from immigration proceedings or so they can sue if their rights are infringed). If you can get the agents' faces or anything identifying, that's awesome

5. Try not to film the victim's face, just to protect their privacy and dignity. The immigrant communities are suffering a lot of trauma right now and that adds to it. They have not had trouble figuring out who was taken based on circumstantial info & video of the victim's body/car/surroundings.

However, if you don't know about their immigration status or that they're fleeing, you are not liable for granting them entry or giving them a ride etc.

4. In Louisiana you can get in legal trouble for "harboring" - so, telling someone fleeing they can hide in your house, or giving them a ride, or helping them in another way when you know they are trying to escape the cops.

announce/narrate that you are stepping back (so it's recorded), and count the steps out loud as you do. They recommend taking three steps back
