Work begins on phase 6 of #RoyalDocksCorridor, a Brucie bonus that will finally connect City Hall & housing in the area to the Cycleway network, and fix the awful wait times for people crossing to the DLR. 🎉 @rokhsanafiaz.bsky.social @plaistovian.bsky.social www.newham.gov.uk/transport-st...

What an extraordinary transformation on the #RoyalDocksCorridor! A 4-lane racetrack for cars becomes a street for people. We attended a celebration event today with the project managers, builders, councillors, Mayor of Newham, and @willnorman.co.uk in attendance. Congratulations to all involved! 🎉

The nights are drawing in and many things are depressing, but you know what isn't? The freshly-upgraded #BecktonCorridor, with its new wide surface and direct links to Beckton DLR and the big Asda. Such a massive improvement, congratulations to the Council on a big improvement for local journeys!

#ThamesWater claim all the diversions on their map are "suitable for pedestrians and cyclists." We disagree—we know of at least 3 injuries on the Abbey Rd diversion, including one person whose foot was run over as he waited at the lights. The West Ham Ln route is also dangerous. #GreenwayFlushedAway

You'd be forgiven for thinking #ThamesWater are trying to keep quiet about their extended closure of #NewhamGreenway: no mention of this section's impending closure for 3 years, just a tiny laminated poster with some pictures from the archives and nebulous talk of "improvements" #GreenwayFlushedAway

Update from Monday: the only changes to the Cycleway 2 roadworks on High Street… were made by Mother Nature. 💨 Thames Water still haven't made any meaningful changes to this death trap.
August 4, 2025 at 2:51 PM
Thames Water's closure of TfL Cycleway 2 on Stratford High Street (and even more of the #Greenway) this week is shockingly dangerous. We have written to them to demand it is fixed before children return to school in September. newhamcyclists.uk/letter-to-th...

On Monday we rode the excellent (albeit slow-going) Romford Rd cycleway & have also met with the Council. We hope all parties, e.g. contractors responsible for moving the bus shelters, can move faster to get more of this important Cycleway finished & open—we're confident progress will speed up soon.

We were pleased to be at @carolinerussell.bsky.social's roundtable at City Hall today—albeit in grim circumstances given the recent deaths of people walking and cycling in our borough. The Mayor, TfL, and the boroughs need to do more, faster, to make Vision Zero a reality. Now's the time to step up.

What a brilliant time at yesterday’s #SaferStreetsWoodgrange ride! Huge thanks to everyone who showed up (135+ of you!!) @rokhsanafiaz.bsky.social You know that Woodgrange residents want an end to the danger on their doorstep—it’s time to make it happen 🚸

That design is a little out of date, but yes, the intention is a camera-enforced bus gate (the ETMO says in both directions.) Outbound traffic will be less of a concern to us once Olympic Park Ave goes one way as part of Westfield Ave scheme, but better for the filter to be 2-way for consistency!

☀️ 🚲 Summer is on the way, and so is the #LondonCyclingFestival on Sunday 25th May! And we thrilled that Newham is one of the 15 boroughs taking part in this family-friendly festival celebrating all things cycling. Games! Food! Stalls! More details and RSVP: lcc.org.uk/events/newha...

What a transformation at #WestfieldAve in #Stratford! High-quality protected cycleways give people time and space to give way to each other. Pedestrians and cyclists feel comfortable moving through at relaxed speed. Drivers just need to slow down slightly, then carry on once the way's clear.

Work might be about to start on the Chobham Road/Leyton Road/Liberty Bridge Road junction, part of Cycle Future Route 7. This will fix one of the worst parts of Cycleway 16, diverting it onto a protected cycleway rather than shared pavements outside people's houses, and fix a dangerous roundabout.

The roadworks for the Honour Lea Avenue re-aligned pedestrian and cycle crossing are finally on site! Work should take about a month, after which work will move to the new mode filter at the junction of Abercrombie Road & Temple Mills Lane. Exciting stuff happening in the Olympic Park ✨

⚠️ 3 of Newham's 4 most #DangerousJunctions for cycling on TfL Cycleway 2, where the cycle track vanishes
💔 Last month a man in his 20s was killed

In less good roadworks-related news, we were very disappointed to see Thames Water's appalling handling of these works on Stratford High Street/Cycleway 2, metres away from where a ghost bike has been installed to mark the recent cycling fatality. Extremely dangerous and very disrespectful.

We were pleased to meet earlier with on-site project staff for the Bow Roundabout works. The problematic westbound cycle gate has been extended, leading to much better compliance, and we hope this will improve further when the next phase starts next week. We’ll be keeping an eye on it.

This evening at 6pm, we held a vigil at the site of a crash the week prior, which claimed the life of a cyclist in his 20s. Our co-ordinator, Jonathan, read some short prepared remarks. We then held a minute’s silence to commemorate the man who was killed. www.newhamcyclists.org.uk/statement-on...

Astonishingly bad works management from TfL at Bow Roundabout tonight, where people using Cycleway 2 to get home are left to fend for themselves & merge with fast-moving traffic at rush hour. (Part of unconsulted changes to add more car lanes to the roundabout in advance of #SilvertownTunnel.)

🧑‍🔧 #FixYourRide is still in hibernation for the winter, but Newham Council is running 🆓 FREE 🆓 Dr Bike sessions in West Ham Park—on the doorstep of the new #WestHamParkLTN—on Saturday 11 January and Saturday 1 February. Get your wheels ready for the new year 🚲🛠️

What makes #WestHamParkLTN so great? It's the 1st time our council is improving the side streets AND the main road (Romford Road) at the same time! Our vision is that everyone deserves to walk & cycle in safety on their street, no matter where in Newham they live. #WestHamPark
