Truly enjoyed my time at the Berry Diabetes Center at Columbia this week, delivering a seminar and meeting with colleagues. Great conversations! Thank you to my host @zeltserlab.bsky.social and her lab!

Found this relic on the “free” table today. Wow would my students laugh to know I used these overhead sheets to complete my PhD comprehensive exam defense. No more “slides” on slide projectors, but we didn’t apparently allow PPT either. 😂😂 The end of an era! 🧪🧪

Another great meeting of the metabolism, obesity, nutrition and diabetes symposium (CDI-MOD) at Michigan this year! Always a friendly crowd and great mix of superb talks. 6 members of our lab, 3 did posters. 🧪🧪

Very ready for a long weekend fully UNplugged starting tonight. Let the emails pile up!! My brain needs to blissfully avoid the inbox for a bit. This is your sign to do the same ;) 🧪🧪

The grant that had so much care and attention, years of preliminary data, input from trusted colleagues, many rounds of edits. And it goes to peer review. 🧪🧪

Sharing our paper - incretin receptors in peripheral nervous system. Much work on these signals centered on functions in brain only, but clearly also neural actions in PNS. We show staining on human nerves. Maybe a role in neuropathy? Great work by Erica DeSousa in our lab 🧪 tinyurl.com/5n6e99wy

Yay for Gehirn & Geist (a German pop science magazine) for covering the excitement around adipose nerves. Quotes by my colleagues and me, which I had to translate to understand 😂 I think this writer did a phenomenal job distilling a complex topic and making it relevant. 🧪🧪

Hearing directly from NIH Director Dr Bhatracharya at AAMC GRAND today - his blueprint: 1) advance health of entire population; 2) allow academic dissent/freedom; 3) solve replication crisis; 4) make big advances via innovation; 5) maintain safety and transparency.

On the hill with Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy today, advocating for restoration of NIH and DOD funding for biomedical research and a concerted effort to improve outcomes for this debilitating condition that impacts more than 30 million Americans, but is under-funded and has no cure.
