Re the origins of mystical experience, do you plan to review scholarship on shamanism? From my own studies, that is where it apparently lies. Western scholars have lived with shamans in the Americas, Australia, Siberia, and Africa.

This writer has overlooked the empirical basis for animism, the testable & reliable understanding that the world is full of beings, with and without physical form. Shamans have leveraged this for millennia. (That's not to say that every felt effect is due to intentional cause.)
