Ha, shout out ME, I fixed it. There were two cookies jamming the page from loading.
Settings / apps / safari / advanced / website data. Search for WhatsApp. Two popped up, delete the buggers.
Then the whatsapp web page loads, QR code pops up, links and working.
Yay!
