I stood on the roof
Cars below
Rain pouring
Red lights, yellow lights
Like a dream
A pattern of lights

I wake up and go to the roof again
Same rain
Every day

I’ll never jump
But I’ll always stay close
Because I’m a cat, trapped in the dream of someone
who already fell.

I dreamed of metal crawling toward me
Woke up in sweat
Lora was lying next to me

Went to wash my face
Came back—she was gone

Turned around
She was standing there with a sawed-off
Aiming at me

"Lora, what are you doing?"
"Trying to wake up," she said
And pulled the trigger.

UFO landed on my lawn
A man stepped out,
bottle in hand

"Got condoms?"
he asked with a grin
"Don’t use them,"
I said

The kids ran out the house,
jumped into the UFO
·
He froze
I went back inside
Pressed a button
The house took off into space.
