It’s chess notation for when you only have one pawn on the sixth rank and advance it to the seventh.

Seems like my kind of country!

The only proper solution is to ban consumer contracts, they only exist as a means of extracting more money from consumers and preventing choice and competition. The same goes for broadband contracts too.

There may be regulations but I'm not sure they can overcome the physics of a greater mass and a taller and blunter front end. As a teenager I was hit by a car and just rolled up the bonnet unscathed, had it been a modern SUV I'm sure it would have turned out a lot worse.

I think the best way to limit car size would to be have better regulations regarding pedestrian and cyclist safety. If the car doesn't meet those standards it can't be sold. I fear tax might not be a sufficient deterrent especially as for a lot of people their car is a status symbol.

True but not safer for pedestrians and cyclists though.

It does seem that moderate people are being left a choice between waving everybody in or deporting everybody. Can we have a rigorous but fair system that works for the good of the country whilst making some room for those fleeing oppression please?

Why property tax rather than land tax?
October 29, 2025 at 10:36 AM
Simple, the threshold for wealth tax should be slightly above whatever wealth I have / reasonably expect to have in my lifetime. Should I suddenly come into money then this would need to be adjusted of course…

The solution is to ban contracts for phones, broadband and TV. There is no reason for them except to undermine consumer rights. Companies should have to work to keep their customers.
October 28, 2025 at 8:57 PM
Also it always escapes these people that we might need sufficient deterrence or to actually defend ourselves or our allies.

I understand why people don’t let their kids roam about unsupervised all day any more, but I don’t get why it’s gone to the other extreme. Worst of all other parents seem to be deeply suspicious of you if you are keen for your child to spend time with theirs. It’s infuriating.
October 22, 2025 at 9:35 AM
Phones and social media etc rightly come in for a lot of criticism, but over structured free time is a really under appreciated problem. It is really damaging to children’s creative and social development. It’s infuriating because it affects all children whether you want to be part of it or not.
