This is a good 40 minute action comedy film that is unusually precise in talking about the mechanics of its movie (i.e. the 2000 Japanese Internet).
Hosoda is a very good director and it's very understandable why he remade this as Summer Wars.

Uh.
This is a good 40 minute action comedy film that is unusually precise in talking about the mechanics of its movie (i.e. the 2000 Japanese Internet).

Wow this was bad past like. Rygel getting his home back.
The entire Kkore plot is kinda enormous trash. The virus plot was incredibly dumb trash. The Riion subplot never goes anywhere. The Unrealized Reality subplot made me want to die.
There's things I like from this.

Wow this was bad past like. Rygel getting his home back.

Uh. This ultimately ends up hitting the same plot beats as the movie for its climax but does some interesting Post-Apocalyptic stuff with Neo Tokyo.
I think I prefer the movie, but there's still plenty of good here.
Also, I had the worst time being able to tell Kei & Kaneda apart.

I like the overall idea but this goes way too long. This is Shinji's Xth nervous breakdown. The entire thing feels weirdly masturbatory.
I think TV 25+26 due to its limited scope does much more interesting and worthwhile introspection and character analysis.

This show is an absolute joy. A tour de force of animation. But so incredibly humble in just being a wonderfully funny. Man. This was arguably show of the season just from sheer animation quality.
