Honestly, I don't know how to properly reflect. It felt like the conversation never truly dove into anything but rather stayed general and that's I guess a strategy that works to reconstruct my steps. #yousoundfamiliar

#SMEno1fav I enjoyed this question because it was the first one after I gave it Prompt A, and it came up with these details not even it was sure of, so throwing GPT off more by having it question everything it created helped shape the conversation into a constantly evolving dialogue, not a structure

Isn't this just...a neurologist? Also, that is definitely one way to get out of lying under oath, or as I should say, try to get out of lying under oath, as according to Google, the expert wasn't allowed to testify but Libby didn't end up serving any jail time. #realityhunger

The idea of having a camera in your apartment that takes pictures every 2 minutes is a little off putting to me, but I suppose it worked out for the person behind Jennicam. Getting to the point where you ignore the camera in your apartment is kind of crazy to me though, #realityhunger

As a newer fan of basbeall, I never watched Ichiro Suzuki but if I knew being in the present of reality is was all that was needed to become a Hall of Famer, maybe I would be on the Mets 🤣. The little question at the end of 127 is pretty funny, he technically answered the question. #realityhunger

Shields came out of left field on page 125, did not expect him to switch up like that. I do agree with him that soul music is kind of universally understood, and despite not having an affinity for it myself, I can appreciate his take that soul is the music people understand. #realityhunger

Guess I have to give this a listen to really see if Shields was exaggerating or really means this. #realityhunger
February 16, 2026 at 1:41 AM
Shields starts off e by asking "What's a fact..a lie...What is" etc, so it definitely feels like he's trying to put into perspective how you can break outside of common traditions and meaning, and just thinking outside of societal norms. #realityhunger

We really are connected via electromagnetic waves, we all use technology, and no matter where our physical locations are, we can pretty much communicate with each other at all times, showcasing that the late nineteenth century developments truly blossomed into what we have today. #realityhunger

This doesn't really matter for the point Shields is making in the book but I'm not sure if it's crazier that Thomas De Quincey took opium while writing a book about the confessions of an opium user, or that he used it for........30 years after writing the book #realityhunger

To be honest, I'm not really sure where Shields is going or what the point of this is, but it's interesting to see what landscape paintings weren't considered art since they are a very prominent form of art today. #realityhunger

Shields says "the techniques of fiction infected history", symbolizing that he believes that things have become too artificial and lack a honest, authentic feel, which in my opinion, comes down to the person. I think that "history" wasn't infected but I see the argument he's making. #realityhunger

Confucius just made a cameo, can't say I was expecting it but he does fit in. Shields talks about aphorism but doesn't really provide any modern day ones. I find the aphorism "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" the most common ones i see, true as ever. #realityhunger

Not sure what's going on between pages 4-6. Shields is speaking about who the "first person" is in novels but he decided to put these sentences on different pages for some reason, wonder why he made this creative choice. #realityhunger

I can't tell you what's been more influential (probably because I haven't seen the film) but what I can tell you is that Shields is very clearly setting himself up to justify why authenticity reigns supreme over scripted, fixed media #realityhunger

Now he's talking about Eminem???? I thought this book was from like the mid-late 1900's and that made me google the release date to see it actually came out in 2010. Was NOT expecting an Eminem mention #realityhunger

Shields provides examples of instances where scripts were used but weren't the only thing used in scenes (media), starting to see where he's going with the title of the book #realityhunger

AI is only as useful as we make it. We need to prompt it properly in order to get results we want. Tell it to focus on things, not ignore things. We should fact check any answers and ensure we are not giving it free reign. It is a tool and liability, our job is to make it a tool. #primarytakeaway

GPT can play any personality we want it to with it's vast knowledge base and we can use that to set the scene for a dialogue about anything, and speak with it as if it's a real person. By doing this, we are basically speaking with the whole internet, which is as creative as it gets. #joesopinion
February 8, 2026 at 7:36 AM
Joe's explanation of helpful assistant helps you because we can use that knowledge to start a dialogue with AI's, and especially for SME's where we need to engage AI in an ongoing conversation. We can frame our questions around focusing on topics, rather than avoiding others. #helpfulassistant

Instead of telling AI to not do something, you should tell it do focus on something else as LLMs respond differently to different prompts, and prompting is an uphill battle, there's no true "AI guide" as to the reasoning and rationale the AI use, so everything is case by case with AI. #joeandashley
February 8, 2026 at 7:30 AM
What Joe says about GPT being another person in a dialogue is really cool because we treat AI as knowers of all, but without 2 way dialogue, we can't refine results and ensure what we're being told is accurate and something we should be absorbing. This "roleplaying" applies to all AI. #joeandashley
February 8, 2026 at 7:23 AM
As someone who uses AI a lot for personal CS projects, it is very relatable that AI appears confident when wrong, as these models are all still constantly training and are making responses in real time, meaning answers can be wrong about anything (including songs) like Joe says. #joeandashley

I think the outro of "fleeting fizzing fragment" being overlapped and given an "echo" kind of tone was a bit confusion inducing. My guess is that it's meant to invoke some kind of feeling in the listener but it more so was just off putting for me, not sure what to make of it. #atmospherestudy
February 8, 2026 at 7:13 AM
I think I wouldn't have really noticed the "background sounds" during the little segments where we heard plates being placed. I think I was able to separate the different audios in that scene between the diner dialogues, plates crashing, what sounded like waiters, etc. #atmospherestudy
