Somehow another year has flown by and today marks my third anniversary as fossil mammal curator at the @nhm-london.bsky.social! ☺️ It's been a whirlwind year full of a huge diversity of projects 🌪️ but most of all the prep for our imminent collections move to Reading 📦 Exciting plans ahead for 2026!

Great day of outreach at @uniofreading.bsky.social for their #CommunityFestival. Sharing the wonder of our recent joint project and @nhm-london.bsky.social fossil mammals from Westbury Cave! Some citizen science to top it off, having the public sort field samples for tiny micromammals! 🐁🦷

Palaeolithic Santa had plenty of help to pull his sleigh 80,000 years ago! 🎅🏻 This magnificent antler is one of 200 reindeer remains from Willment’s Pit near Isleworth, west London 🦌 Back then London was a tundra grassland used by reindeer for autumn-winter grazing! Merry Christmas! 🎄 #fossilfriday

A great day with Juliette and Hettie from the University of Reading going through small fossil mammal finds! 🔬 They have been busily processing museum field samples in labs at Reading as part of our latest collaborative project. Voles, shrews and hares for Christmas - perfect! 🎄

Wow! The largest watercolour in the @nhmlibraryarchives.bsky.social collection, AND it’s a fossil mammal! 2.5×5.7 metres of Megatherium painted by artist George Scharf in 1842. Coloured parts include real specimens collected by Darwin, studied by Owen, now in the NHM collection 🦥 #fossilfriday

For #fossilfriday, some fantastic early reconstructions of the bizarre aquatic mammal Desmostylus from the Oligocene-Miocene found in a Japanese publication while sorting through old collections documents! 😊

What a great day for a first post here! ☀️Just back from a #fossilfriday at Down House, home of Charles Darwin! Our visiting Argentinian collaborator Gabriel is leading a taphonomic study of Darwin’s fossils 🦴 including this slice of Megatherium skull kept at Down 🦥 All topped off with a pub lunch!
