Happy #SeaSlugDay! Here are some of the #origami #nudibranchs that I have on display at the #Glasgow Art Club through 22 Nov.

On the wall is the unfolded crease pattern for one of the designs I make on repeat (foreground of the other image, copper and tan).

Working on new designs for sacoglossans!

inspired (haunted?) by a recent post by anavaldi.bsky.social, here is the 📉 #UKRI award rate (%) by research council over the last decade. Data from www.ukri.org/publications...

Unfortunately this dataset doesn't let you distinguish individual funding schemes from each other.

If you need some #origami #nudibranchs and tangled marine connectivities in your life, Waterways Collective and I have an exhibition at Glasgow Art Club through 22 Nov. It's an offshoot of a beautiful Wasps Studios group show--details at glasgowartclub.co.uk/.../23rd-oct...

"…also the fault of the papers themselves. You can't read them at a steady pace, as if you were walking. I think it's because they're too busy filling up the tiniest holes in their argument… When actually it's best to leave some open spaces, to let some air in."

If you're on the Black Isle on Saturday the 28th, come join waterwayscollective.org for an afternoon of beach theatre, microscopes, zine-making, and meditations on smolting.

We have a new #plankton net to try out + I made an #origami mayfly nymph, which was fiddly.

@elizabethbeston.bsky.social here is a variant for the area around Norfolk: the CPR hasn't wandered into the area around your sampling site very often!

We've got a new website to collect the ventures of the Waterways Collective (waterwayscollective.org), a group of artists and scientists who came together in 2024 to see where we'd get following wild #salmon journeys up into the Scottish #landscape and out into the #Atlantic.

How did I not know the 9-volume treatise by Georg Sars on the #crustaceans of Norway, 1901?

Two vols on the copepods alone, and he was good with a pencil.

If you're new to #marinebiology, or to the #Atlantic, or just need a ritual reminder of how deep #biodiversity goes, they're all on archive.org

There's a theme here in 16th c Flemish altarpieces (I snapped this one in Florence last month; did not acquire it for a special price of 16M)

Seems like the official iconographic answer is: St Margaret. But I can't get over how intensely everyone is _not_ looking at the dragon.

William Morris, #ADHD counsellor avant la lettre. From "The Aims of Art", 1888.

I read this to my 9yo when she was hiding behind a bush to avoid going to school, and all I can say is, we made it to school.

The first paper from @aislinn-borland.bsky.social 's PhD came out just before the hols when I was in mince-pie mode but: 🎆!

It models how young wild #salmon navigate the confusing coastal #ocean, over 27yrs of variability.

The Strathclyde Uni #MarineEcology contingent brought #diatom #origami to a pop-up Museum of Microalgae (microalgaemuseum.com) at the #Glasgow Botanic Gardens last Fri. Busy day—there is a hunger out there for microscopic forests! 🔬🍃

If you were wondering what to do with yourself on Fri the 29th in #Glasgow, the answer is "stop by the Botanics for a pop-up museum of #microalgae." It should be a good time for 4yos and 4th year grad students alike! I'll be there with #origami #diatoms + instructions.

omg, #nudivember exists. I had no idea and it's already the 20th. Does anyone want to help me match #origami #nudibranch designs to species?

Over 60 yrs, energy in the form of delicious #zooplankton (food for the wee fish that feed #seabirds, #salmon, etc) has dropped by >50% (!!!) over a huge area of the N European continental shelf and the open Atlantic. Paper by Tyldesley et al (June 2024) academic.oup.com/icesjms/arti... (1/2)
