In my opinion, this quote oversimplifies things. The brain does seek balance when hurt, and yes, schadenfreude and even revenge can light up reward circuits. But we’re just as wired for empathy and reflection. Retaliation isn’t the default. It’s simply one option.

We should be more alarmed with the “I’m not familiar with this film” numbers. I mean, how can 37% of people not be familiar with The Holiday or Trading Places?
