The bidding war continues: Netflix is duking it out with Paramount over its hostile takeover attempt + Hollywood is on the edge of its seat. One exec likened it to "a death in the family." Will media consolidation be the end of moviegoing as we know it? Here's what you need to know. #warnerbros

I don’t care if the deal isn’t approved on antitrust grounds. Media company consolidation is a crime inflicted on America just like Citizen’s United. But if it is done to steer this deal to his pal Ellison to create an even worse situation that would be yet another travesty. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Q: Should Netflix be allowed to buy Warner Brothers?

TRUMP: That's a question. They have a very big market share. I'll be involved in that decision

All media mergers end up hurting writers, actors, directors, and everyone else who works in the industry. Executives, assistants, caterers, teamsters, everyone. Fewer companies means fewer jobs, period.

Your Black Friday reminder that in 75% of U.S. industries, a smaller number of companies now control more of the business than they did twenty years ago. We must stop the monopolization of America. Shop small if you can, please.

The vicious cycle of monopolization:

1) Corporations argue that their growth is just part of the free market.
2) Use their monopoly power to gouge consumers.
3) Take a portion of their profits to make political donations.
4) Lobby against antitrust enforcement.
5) Repeat.

Independent media all the way. They need our support. Let’s make it grow and be available to all. Better news, broadcasting, entertainment, anyway, and uncensored, creativity, and truth telling.

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.
