Its directly out of The wheel of Time books..where in a similar scene someone who thinks themselves to be very important to the dark lord suddenly realises that the one that they dismissed as just a messenger is way higher up the order because of how that passage treats them.

If Bel knows of them and why they are on their way to him let him mess with the group . Have 2-3 bottlenecks they have to pass where Bel seems to favour some of them I.e. a passage lined with visious Spikes. For some its easy to pass, for others very narrow and for one so tight the Spikes draw blood
