If they're going to use AI, which they are, it's super important to me they know the WHY and how to write without it bc my god, we are deskilling our students if we don't build a foundation before using the magic box.

For improved efficiency/tolerance of more fragile func, a catalytic (~1%) amt of HgCl2 or PbCl2 can give it a lighter touch

Raney Ni (W2) can also do the job, but isn't as efficient in terms of amount needed per sulfur spliced out in my experience

Steve, is it next to an ester? If so, Mg/MeOH can do the job.

I've also used nickel boride for this (just made in situ from NiCl2 and NaBH4 in MeOH)

Very often. From my colleagues who have been here longer, there seems to be a steep decline in reading comp (and essential arithmetic!) over past 5-6 years that persists past introductory :(
