The final activity covers science in the news. Students analyze news articles reporting on a study about possible associations between gratitude and mortality. Students will then compare the articles’ interpretations of the study to the actual study in the academic journal in which it was published.

In the introductory activity, students compare science to other ways of knowing and evaluate examples of misleading data-based claims. The DataWISE tool is introduced as a checklist for evaluating any claim that would require scientific evidence as support.
