I’m at the table - ready and willing to come together with the General Assembly on a fiscally responsible budget that invests in our people. We’re the only state in the nation whose legislature still hasn’t passed a budget. It’s long past time. www.johnlocke.org/the-budget-f...
The budget failure and its consequences
Now, North Carolina stands alone. It is the only state in the nation that was expected to pass a budget in 2025 and failed to do so. Even more striking: the General Assembly never even sent a budget t...

Thanksgiving is all about family. And when our troops are stationed at a new base or deployed, their families are affected as well.

🦃It was a pleasure to pardon Krispy and Kreme today at the People’s House.

May you both enjoy living out your days at the Naylor Family Farm in Fuquay-Varina.

Congratulations to the newest troopers of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol! Entering the field of law enforcement is hard and often underappreciated work. It's also so important and meaningful.

Yesterday I heard from local law enforcement along the coast about how we can all work together to keep communities safe. Public safety depends on partnership, and I am committed to working with folks at every level of government to invest the resources needed to keep North Carolina safe.

The actions of the Border Patrol in communities across North Carolina are doing the opposite of keeping us safe.

The House and the Senate both agree they haven’t fully funded Medicaid. But they won’t agree to fund it. The General Assembly needs to set their differences aside and get it done.

Anna and I send our condolences to the family of former NC Supreme Court Justice Willis Whichard. Willis served our state effectively and with humility in so many ways — the State Senate, the Court of Appeals, and the NC Supreme Court. He will be missed. May his memory be a blessing.

Our diversity makes us stronger. It powers our economy and enriches our lives. Let’s keep working to strengthen public safety and restore community trust. Neighbors looking out for neighbors is the North Carolina way.

Among his many accomplishments, former Senator Thomas F. Taft Sr worked to improve highway access across eastern North Carolina. Naming NC 11 in his honor is a fitting dedication to his years of service to our state. I hope everyone who travels it does so safely!

Health care costs are continuing to rise, and the legislature’s inaction on Medicaid is not helping. But there is some good news!

Everyone deserves to be safe and feel safe in their community. Last night, Secretary Esparza and I held a listening session in Charlotte. Thank you to the people who shared their stories with me.

Through the Steve Smith Family Foundation, Carolina Panthers legend Steve Smith has created a 24/7 behavioral health facility to help treat people who are in crisis. Facilities like this are critical in making sure people have access to care and are treated with dignity and compassion.

Hurricane Helene hit western NC more than a year ago, and the federal government has covered only around 10 percent of the storm’s damage. NC needs a FEMA director who will partner to help WNC recover.
Breaking news: David Richardson resigned as acting head of FEMA.

Richardson was known for frequently being inaccessible, including during the early hours of the flood disaster in Texas over the Fourth of July weekend.
FEMA head resigns. Richardson had been hard to reach during Texas floods.

NCDHHS can’t put health care costs on a credit card.

The longer the General Assembly refuses to fund our Medicaid program, the more they erode our health care system. They need to do their jobs.

Speaker Hall and Senator Berger made the time to gerrymander our state but couldn’t find the time to protect people’s health care or pass a budget that pays our teachers, law enforcement, or state employees.

Too many working people are being kicked while they are down In North Carolina. We don’t have to be a part of that. When people are counting on us to take action, we can and must answer that call.
November 15, 2025 at 1:32 PM
The number one priority of the state is to keep people safe. Local law enforcement will continue to do that long after federal agents go on to the next place.

Renew NC is making progress to welcome families back home after Hurricane Helene’s devastation. I was honored to meet with a homeowner in Fairview whose new home is now complete.
