Cottrell - now archbishop of York who has led the Church since Welby’s resignation - has always resisted calls to resign, even after former archbishops quit over their advocacy for Tudor.

His response? Things “could have been handled differently”.

This judgement is a powerful affirmation that children's and parents' rights matter, and that publicly funded schools should never be used as a vehicle for imposing religious doctrine or teachings.

Parties on both sides of the NI sectarian divide have consistently resisted inclusive, secular education - despite clear evidence of parental demand and children's best interest.
