But instead they get into this bizarre mess of trying to categorize individual supplements as "concerning" or not, which the companies (rightfully) pointed out doesn't have any scientific backing

A much better way to communicate this is: most of the time standard serving of protein powder contains about 1/10th to 1/5 of an average adult's daily lead intake. That's a lot! And a few brands are much higher; a few will literally double your lead exposure if you take them everyday.

If this was a political drama we would be laughing at how terroble the writing was

What's really striking about this study is how small the effect size is.

If this study is well conducted, the takeaway is that social media use has no effect on your personal mental health that is significant in a practical sense.

Attending the Cognitive Neuroscience Society? Come by data blitz 4 this morning to see the first ever data from our project on enhancing slow wave sleep with smartwatches!
March 29, 2025 at 1:34 PM
Our team has developed a method for doing the same thing using the sensors on a smartwatch. We ran a validation test which showed that this stimulation significantly increased delta power when people slept–and people who had large increases in delta power also improved on tests of processing speed!

Pretty sure this is supposed to be flowers but I just see cortex slices

And this is what we found! While SD-TMR applied a few hours after learning weakens the targeted memory, SD-TMR after a week does *nothing*.

We know that by disrupting sleep, we can actually weaken specific memories. But why does this happen?
In a new paper my colleagues (Erika Yamazaki, Ken Paller) and I manipulated the timing of sleep disruption to understand how sleep disruption can erase memories.

* He is the only character who canonically anything to do with chocolate
* The tour is not led by Wonka, but by some guy called McDuff
* The general atmosphere of the factory suggests morale is low
