I framed this commissioned piece over the weekend. I’d wanted to use this stuff for a while( it’s called Oriented strand board) to make a frame, and am really happy with how it turned out. I feel the texture of the overlapping wood chips really works with the textured border I put on the canvas.

The best you could do for this “fight” is to retire, you quisling!

It was fun to figure out that if we allocated Senators by the standard of Wyoming’s population = 2 Senators, LA *county* would get 34. I’ve never been offered a good reason why we shouldn’t do just that.

I spent the 1st 1/2 of my life in the small state of MD, the rest in the large state of CA. I can think of 0 interests that one state has that harms the other, and no reason why my voice in the affairs of our country should matter so much less than it once did.

Nice! I decided to let myself do something big, again, soon. The trick will be to keep myself from cramming all the detail of an 18x24 into something larger… because I would actually want to finish it 🙂

Right on. I haven’t made anything close to that big in a very long time. I’m feeling the need…

It was for a show at The Hive Gallery, in Los Angeles, back in early 2006. I collaborated with my good friend David Wilson, who I’ve known since art school. I painted the tiled spaces and the floating camera, David added the rest. It was a strange and interested process. I still dig the result.

That’s a really cool melding of your painting & drawing styles. And, 72x54! Man, that’s huge!

It’s only the 2nd time I’ve done a collaboration, and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. After I handed it back to Luis, he framed it and added some sculptural paint drips, continuing the painting outside the frame.

I swear the biggest, most dangerous divide on the left side of things is between the folks whose starting point is to take the word as it is vs the ones who insist on only engaging the world as they believe it should be.

I sent out an email to an announcement list for my artwork in January, just letting folks know I survived the Eaton fire without losing my home & studio. Several people unsusbscribed, one cited "spam" as the reason. People, man...
