Check out our new paper led by Dr Friederike Charlotte Hechler. We show that believing an artificial agent’s gaze is human- rather than AI-controlled moderates how we perceive communication. If gaze behaviour is ambiguous, we give humans the benefit-of-doubt and assume communication 🧠👀🤖
🚀 #OpenScience paper
How do top-down beliefs about artificial agents shape how we interpret their gaze?

Eye contact+repeated gaze shifts cued communicative #intent, but when #gaze was ambiguous, people saw intentionality only if they believed the agent was 🙋 human (vs 🤖 #AI).
