I say this cause in the game boy scene, I've had to fix so many people's builds that they bought modded! And the mistakes were pretty bad

The biggest difference is price, $5 vs $1. 0.3V input vs 0.5V input. The newer cheaper one needs bigger input and output caps though. It's quite noisy
