Nancy Townsley
@nancytownsley.bsky.social
Just a gramma who sews and writes. Author of SUNSHINE GIRL, Heliotrope Books, 2025.
That stupid editorial in this morning's WaPo about how naming the criminals in the Epstein files is unfair really sticks in my craw.

Post-developmental edit, I'm revising my second novel, which tackles end-of-life care in America. Grateful for these words from the magical @bethkephart.bsky.social: "I wholly endorse Nancy’s new work and deeply hope that it will find its way into the hands of many readers through the right press."

So, yeah. It's all a game.

Ruh-roh, Donald. The MAGAs are big mad about Epstein.
November 14, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Whether Trump raped girls, hung out at Epstein's house, or donated even one dollar to this abominable operation, he "participated." The writer of this headline in today's Washington Post was derelict in their duty to factually inform. This story has tentacles like no other. Release the files.

Joanne Carducci, aka @jojofromjerz.bsky.social, says it plain: "... we shouldn’t have to cut a deal with political arsonists just to keep people fed. We shouldn’t have to act civil while the country has a gun to its head and the shooter says, 'Let us kill your healthcare or we’ll starve your kids.'"

Sharing a few photos taken at the marina by neighbor @rmklumpp.bsky.social. Amazing images of bald eagles.

@hcrichardson.bsky.social never disappoints.

It's 5 a.m. Wednesday. Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley's voice is getting a bit hoarse after 13 hours of speaking on the senate floor. "This is a dictator. This is not a president. This is a tyrant."

Taking a smidgen of encouragement from this quote by Seth Masket on [email protected]. For this afternoon, anyway.

In my almost 68 years, I don't think I've ever seen a more potent metaphor. What are we going to do about it?
October 21, 2025 at 2:30 PM
Rubio's CECOT tattling, Louvre jewelry heist, Pentagon press coverage, and vaccine timing all topped the awful headline "No Kings protests draw large crowds" in today’s WaPo. Lemme help: SEVEN MILLION AMERICANS FLOOD STREETS TO DEFEND THEIR COUNTRY AGAINST FASCISM. Much better and way more accurate.
October 19, 2025 at 1:37 PM
Thanks, @jojofromjerz.bsky.social. The sorry excuse for a "press secretary" doesn't get to diss this pro-democracy, anti-fascism gramma who is definitely heading out to protest the contemptible unconstitutional actions of her baby boss today.

From Robin Snyder. EPSTEIN. EPSTEIN. EPSTEIN.
October 18, 2025 at 1:48 PM
Preparing to peacefully protest the policies and actions of the current administration tomorrow. We will say with one voice that there are No Kings in America. Singing songs and carrying signs, we will declare that we are against fascism and for democracy. #october18 #nokingsday #wethepeople

From @hcrichardson.bsky.social. Our future cannot be this.

I had made myself a note (so many notes!) to circle back around to the wonderful @bethcastrodale.bsky.social in November to see if she'd had time to read my debut novel Sunshine Girl. She beat me to the punch with this amazing review! Thank you, thank you, Beth.

Get thee behind me with your balderdash, Stephen.

"The President’s determination was simply untethered to the facts.”
— U.S. District Judge Karin J. Immergut, a Trump appointee, in her decision to grant a temporary restraining order blocking the administration from deploying troops in Portland

Fifty-seven more sleeps before #100smallpress drops Dec. 1 on LitHub! I read some marvelous books for this project, spearheaded by @miriamgershow.bsky.social. Looking forward to the full list!

The last book I read for #100SmallPressBooks2025 was No Offense: A Memoir In Essays by @jackiedwrites.bsky.social (ELJ Editions). It digs into their life as a queer person today, the travails of planning a wedding or buying a car illustrating awkward and sometimes directly hostile interactions.
October 4, 2025 at 1:46 PM
I also read Rehearsals For Dying: Digressions On Love And Cancer (Feminist Press) for #100SmallPressBooks2025. In it, @arielgore.bsky.social draws on her experience taking care of her wife through the ravages of breast cancer. Super honest and relevant in this time of healthcare system Whac-A-Mole.
October 4, 2025 at 1:26 PM
Chaos Magic by @www.jenknox.net (Kallisto Gaia Press) was the second book I read for #100SmallPressBooks2025. This turbocharged feminist-forward tale, replete with wisdom and playfulness, takes readers on a bewitching ride that lands a resonant theme of balance and harmony in the midst of challenge.

I read four books for #100SmallPressBooks2025 (final list comes out in LitHub in November). The first was It All Felt Impossible: 42 Years In 42 Essays by @tmcallister.bsky.social (Rose Metal Press). With dry insight and wit, he encourages the honest self-examination that leads to understanding.

“The loudest message” the senior officers sent at Quantico was "no message at all—only that they have the quiet, disciplined silence of professionals who know their oath is to the Constitution, not to a man.”

Reflective early morning of reading, writing, revision.
