And my parents were a public school teacher and a dietician who was employed by nursing homes because they HAD to. Ie, they saved & invested modest salaries in order to have nice retirement & some $ to leave me.

It’s worthwhile. It shields the assets from gov’t scrutiny so they don’t first scoop them up before paying out for end of life care. It enabled my mom to leave me a sufficiency when she passed in ’21.

My parents threw a lot of $ at an eldercare lawyer who made trusts such that when Dad went into assisted living and then a nursing home, the gov couldn’t get at it. It was worth it.
