One day I'm not going to see a German apologizing for genocide but today is not that day.

Your point is not true: "to get to "genocide" even in a worst case famine scenario you would have to ascribe the humanitarian situation solely to Israel"
May 11, 2024 at 4:06 PM
If there are any of those clauses you do not Israel has met since October 7th, feel free to try to spell our your argument, because "solely to blame" isn't in there.

and Israel has been clear in intent and actions under any vaguely reasonable definition in the articles of the convention.

There is no "single source of the humanitarian crisis" under the conservative UN definition because that's ridiculous and has never happened in history. There's always other groups that could have helped and didn't, or took advantage of the situation to heap more suffering on the group being killed

This is like saying the holocaust wasn't a genocide because the Nazis tried deportation first.

One time I looked for that for some reason and came across this.

What the hell, is the administration just going to stop even attempting to pretend they care about anything other than sadism?
May 11, 2024 at 5:22 AM
It has to be countries that really need the money and it's worth taking the L for it. We'll have to see how the internal politics works out there, some of them might regret it.

The island states are down to US pressure (threats/bribes). Argentina & Hungary are currently suffering under the reigns of Milei & Orban, lunatics who latched onto Israel/Netanyahu because they also love corruption and abusive governance. Not sure about Czechia, but probably US pressure there too.

And a special mention of a guy who fumbled the bag there.

One of the odder stories in the run up to the Iraq war revealed by Sen Leahy in his memoir was when he was directed to intel in the capitol SCIF that severely undermined the Bush administration's case for war by mysterious joggers, and used that intel to do... nothing.

This is made basically impossible by most state and federal politicians not seeing a problem with the police gangs even if a local reformer gets in, they're left to the violent intimidation and retaliation from the police if they try anything.
May 10, 2024 at 4:08 PM
I think the only way to solve Americas police problem is with coordinated local, state, and federal action where non criminal replacements are trained somewhere with laws like Norway and then the entire department fired with the national guard to make them disarm and feds to investigate the crimes.

If we start holding people accountable for what they do it will not work out well for her.

I don't think it was a brains kind of operation.

They do run together I guess.

I think that was the same one, the New Hampshire libertarian party is exceptionally insane poster. Straight up defending Imperial Japan, which even by the stunted moral understanding of the libertarians is wrong because American business interests were disrupted by the beheading contests in China.

I followed it in the early 2000's and saw some of the TERF stuff from 2014 or so and am still shocked by what it has come too.

ah.

Having been looking into some of this recently, there are a number of schools with programs for returning students UT Austin has Plan 2 (but the UT system might be facing political purge soon), Drexel has a similar general studies thing to get an undergrad with a lot of already earned credits.

We have to stop calling it AI and use "delusional autocomplete" or something instead.

For siting, I figure if you sacrifice the golf course at Andrews you have plenty of room to build some apartment complexes. It improves security as well since it's on a base, and there's already transit to the capitol from there I believe.

Of course, I also think most legislative work in these times should be remote so they actually live in their districts and only head to DC for some things.
May 9, 2024 at 9:24 PM
I've been in favor of making a federal housing complex in DC for legislators, staffers, and executive appointees; similar to base housing for the military. It removes one source of trouble/bribes and makes it easier for people without wealth to hold office.
