Because the inside is packed with the good stuff!

Those of you who backed at the Box Set tier, be on the lookout for your colorfully stamped mail package.

Don't worry if you missed it, you can always buy a Box Set from retailers once fulfillment is completed.

The box is small, as you can see, but pretty hefty. Look at the margins on that text on the side of the box. Why so thick, you might ask?

We'll start with the parcel box from @spacepenguinink.bsky.social .

One thing I always appreciate about their packaging is that it is robust with good padding. My mail carrier seems to like to play catch with my TTRPG books sometimes, so I appreciate it when people go the extra mile.

My Cairn 2nd Edition Box Set arrived (a perk of being on the Dev Team).

As fulfillment begins to ramp up, I'd thought I'd give everyone a (badly photographed) preview of what you get for your 55USD (+shipping).

Martin is correct. I literally just finished a session with some.

Cairn works great for Middle Schoolers.

What blog posts are people reading lately?

I've really been enjoying going through @elmc.at 's series translating the Dolmenwood Factions into a usable framework for a Faction Turn system.

Honestly, I wish I could nominate the whole series for a Bloggies award.

Break!! was waiting for me upon my return from vacation.

Congrats on a successful fulfillment and ENNIES win, @naldodrinan.bsky.social and @greywizard.bsky.social !

It looks even better in physical form!

Seriously though, this is a chonky boy.

I'm afraid to leave it alone with my other books in the same way you don't leave a big fish in the same tank as a bunch of small ones.

Found this book at the threshold of my basement.

The rub? I don't have a basement.

Be right back. I have to investigate a weird chittering sound.

I had these beauties delivered to me courtesy of @seanmccoy.bsky.social, @weirdwonder.bsky.social, and @spacepenguinink.bsky.social.

No time to read them yet, so they'll sit on my shelf and taunt me as I edit the Cairn 2e Adventure Anthology (now included in the Boxed set).

Oh, the humanity!

Put the plunger down, Brad.

I got some great OSR books in the mail this week.

I use clear brochure holders. They are not as space-efficient as some systems, but I like how visible they make them.

There is a lot of stuff out there and not all of it is going to be of value to everyone. To me, a good review should let someone know if they would like something even if the reviewer themselves doesn't. That's the sort of review I would want for something I made. 4/4
January 27, 2024 at 5:11 AM
I think sometimes we get fixated on whether reviews should be based on play experience or not and should instead focus on expecting reviews to highlight the noteworthy, be honest about our biases, and ultimately help people decide if they need a new addition to their shelves. 3/4
January 27, 2024 at 5:10 AM
My review doesn't expose a major scandal or examine how best to approach a setting based on real world history and culture. What I set out to do with my review of Break was to really examine how well it synthesized its influences and help people make an informed choice. 2/4

It's the final round of voting for Reviews, and my review of the "OSR Meets JRPG/Zelda" RPG Break!! , created by @naldodrinan.bsky.social and @greywizard.bsky.social , is up for Bronze.

The attached picture is my brain deciding between the top two posts.

I was playing Persona 5 when I found out I made it past the first round this time.

Would you like to play a class where you can summon things like Persona? @greywizard.bsky.social and @naldodrinan.bsky.social have you covered.

Read (and vote) for my review of their RPG forms.gle/CDVF9S7qd3sD...

Bluesky is mad at Zedeck for posting some 2e art where adventurers are posing with a dragon corpse like my cousins would pose with a hog they hit with their F-150, so here's a link to the form for this round's voting.

Do you know about Break!! by @naldodrinan.bsky.social and @greywizard.bsky.social? To me, it has a lot to please both the OSR and 5e/PF gamer. If you read my review, I think you'll have a pretty good idea if you should buy it.

..And if you find/found my review valuable, please vote accordingly.

Now I'm up against @mindstorm.bsky.social in the advice category. Stiff competition, to say the least.

Here's the link. Vote as you will.

Here's a secret, though. I'm in Ty's post as well! So really, no matter what, I win!

Everything is going according to plan.

What makes a good player-facing Pointcrawl map? Here's my attempt to answer that question with The Black Wyrm of Brandonsford map and principles from "Landmark, Hidden, Secret."

Here's the next installment of the Cairn 2e West Marches play reports.

I continue my quest to catch up on my session reports for the Cairn 2e West Marches Playtest run by @yochaigal.bsky.social .

Read about our efforts to take follow-through on a Downtime Activity: finding a Woodwose (AKA, the Green Man of the Woods).

I made my OSR Basics section of the Cairn Crash Course I wrote into its own blog post. Now you can share it with people that you are recruiting for another type of OSR game and not confuse them.
