The Saudi PIF has only $60 billion in cash on hand as of November 2024. They would need to sell a lot more oil at a lot higher prices if they ever would be able to follow through on any of this.

I have been in Silicon Valley my whole life, and I can see how this time is different. 3 years post GPT launch and 100’s billions spent, no job growth. I have a software engineer tenant, and he tells me he is doing himself what 10 person team used to do. It’s coming for a lot of jobs.

By the time this regime ends we are going have much more serious problems. The complete lack of attention and regulation of AI is going to have catastrophic implications.

The meeting was a positive in a negative time. But Mamdani and Trump will be back to hurling invective at each other within days, ICE will continue their abductions in NYC as before, and federal funding will be withheld. But at least they demonstrated that they can be in the same room together.

European counties aren’t socialist as the caption and photo by OP imply. Words do matter and we should try to call out more accurately where we want to go; a market economy/social democracy. Alas, I know, legitimate debate on the subject seems far away.
