Evergreens were gathered days before Yule and hung in doorways and rafters so life would remain in the home even when the land slept. Pine, fir, and holly promised that nothing truly dies in winter. #FolkloreSunday

WHERE did this year go? It's DECEMBER tomorrow! We had months consumed by a family member's stay in ICU (now doing very well) and a wedding (awesome!). One extreme to the other! And now it's holiday season. I'm hoping 2026 is somewhat calmer, and extend that wish to YOUR 2026.

I am not getting up to look, but I think this volume I have was published in 1919. I still re-read it--always magical!

The cranberry relish is made. I use this old hand grinder just like my grandmother did. (1 bag cranberries washed & sorted. small apple, cored, quartered, small orange quartered. Put each through the grinder. 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon to taste, some nutmeg. Best if made a day or so ahead.)
