You sort of expect the Usk to flood the Castle Meadows as it’s tidal and tends to. But this was the Cibi and Monnow and Dulas brook, which are fed by run off from the mountains.

It’s the sheer amount of water falling in such a short time - the drains aren’t made to cope with it. The sheet rainfall was something I haven’t seen here. There had been some drain clearing earlier in the day, but there are limited staff to do it too. Also rivers burst their banks.
