You seem to have the knack! We don't need to know that the Angelfish folds space by using a Glorbian substrate inversion manifold matrix oscillator. We need to know that it's a big heap of costcutting and bodge fixes barely managing to hold together and keep from a catastrophic meltdown.

Ultimately, scifi doesn't have to tell you how the ship's engines work any more than a contemporary crime drama has to explain how the cop car's engine works.
