Classic Yglesias: smuggling in a cultural claim in order to elide the political economy structural mechanism which necessitate this pattern of production.

When your town is destroyed by a drug pushed as “safe” with the backing of the very institutions meant to protect you, the party that built its identity around trusting those institutions is the last one you’ll turn to.

I guess i'm not terminally online enough.

I argue this at the end of this piece in which I look at how AI 'art' is training us to accept our own obsolescence.

I make the distinction that embodied art is the answer as AI generated content can never be art.

Agreed. Art is the answer.

"If a Black woman presented the exact same theory, she would likely face a "credibility deficit" that this white male does not. In academic philosophy, radical or "counter-intuitive" theories often require a foundation of immense privilege to be taken seriously rather than dismissed as confusion."

Asks AI: Do you think if this white dude was a black woman from the American South and held the same theories they would be held in high esteem like this?

AI:"Based on the demographics of academic philosophy and the specific nature of this position, the sociological answer is almost certainly no."

And on the solutions spectrum we need more than cognitive resistance. I argue that embodied art is the only distinct value left and the mechanism through which we can articulate the symbolic forms that keep us rooted in lived time and shared presence.

Glad to see the pivot to systems, but we need to define the mechanism. My essay Taxidermy Chic argues it's a structural necessity of Social Acceleration not necessarily 'greed.' The human body is the final bottleneck to capital flow:

I’m making a media-institutional critique. You’re sliding into the neoliberal habit of treating this like an individual personality problem. Bret’s ‘self-reflection’ is not the point, it is the NYT deciding over and over to give him the platform.

I place the blame on the NYtimes, not Bret. The editors choose to silence another voice to give space for this voice. It is a calculated choice on their end.
