When I asked the bot to meet me halfway and refund one of the payments, as I had just paid $99 for a year’s subscription, the bot got confused and ended the conversation. Footnote: Apple’s revenues for 2024 were $391.04 billion. Nice to know I contributed £34.98 of pure profit towards that.

Otter’s advice, dispensed by a bot, was to take out any future subscription direct with Otter. They also couldn’t offer me a refund as “Otter can't process refunds for Apple store purchases”, which is fair enough.

I escalated it, spoke to Thomas (he refused to give me his surname), who just repeated the same thing. No way of escalating this further, so no denying the fact Apple had taken £34.98 of my money and given me nothing for it, just check the small print next time.

I called Apple, who were very helpful, and within 24 hours, refunded two of the payments. Great, but what about the other two? I called again and was told that because it was more than 60 days since the first two payments had been made, the window to claim a refund had passed, so nothing doing.

Since then I’ve made four monthly payments to Apple of £17.49 each, but a week or so ago, I realised that the Pro subscription hadn’t been applied to my account as I got a warning saying I’d hit my limit of 300 minutes, which is what you get for free.

I’ve been using the Otter transcription app on my iPhone for a while now and in October, decided to upgrade to the Pro version, via the app and the App Store.

Thank you! If creative equals messy then yes though I do clear the decks from time to time. And the food wasn't too shabby thanks 😃
