As the antidote to the grim realities of The Zorg, The Christmas Clue, a quintessential cozy holiday mystery recommended by @nonsuchbook.bsky.social

This book tells a relentlessly grim story. Every time you think the details could not get more horrific, they do. This has proven a far from seasonal listen, but it is well written and tells a necessary, but ignored, part of history.

I was inspired by this post to watch the trailer. I am baffled as to why this movie exists. The one review I found was not kind and suggests that there is an old documentary available online that does a much better job telling the story.
I mute adverts when they come on so I keep mistaking this film trailer for mobile phone advert starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. It’s the most uncinematic looking atrocity I’ve seen in years. Has anyone watched it? youtu.be/ZqU7iiHFCzw?...

Sunday reading x 2 and Sunday listening. For those who are wondering, the Asterix is for the Christmas Day episode of @backlisted.bsky.social. I have not read Asterix since my early teens. The start of the latest On the Calculation of Volume has immediately pulled me back into that world.

What is it that starts to make you feel old? I just received the “save the date” for my undergraduate 40th reunion next June.

The next step is inevitably a 3D printer for home model production.
We have, in just these last twelve months, shifted seamlessly from "every present needs to be Lego" to "every present needs to be Warhammer 40,000."

Question. Is it reasonable for our neighbours to come by and ask if we can assist them in putting up their 15-20 foot tall, 250+ lb Christmas tree?

Good evening.

A popular work social media site has sent me a list of job openings. Maybe I should try the third one, the app seems to think I am highly qualified.

Sunday reading, Sunday listening and current audiobook. All new today having finished both Wuthering Heights and Outline yesterday. Now to listen to the @backlisted.bsky.social episodes on both again. One I liked, the other very much a struggle.

Does return to office achieve anything if everyone who joined after lock-down and never experienced office life before that spends the entire day with their office door shut?

Another instalment of Inventory on a group about whom I know nothing, but which has engrossed me anyway. Also, a great “intrusive ad break for trousers” Easter egg to add an additional smile.

Never discount those old weather proverbs. All this early snow is even too much for Santa.

Good morning. Old weather proverbs suggest this confirms the forecast of snow for tonight. The photos don’t really capture the colour of the higher clouds.

Books read or listened to November 2025. A slow month after a busy October.

Sunday reading, Sunday listening and current audiobook. Fittingly on the 10th birthday of @backlisted.bsky.social I am reading a book I would never otherwise have read and listening to a book that is challenging my tastes.

December will be toast month. I am looking forward to starting into my “spreads” Adventure calendar.

The best part is that the article on AI slop starts with an AI summary of the article on AI slop.
Mmm… more slop.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.
