I gave this a shake yesterday and had the exact same experience and frustrations with this; the narrow sections and dark area really soured my enjoyment. Which is a shame because the presentation and mechanics are so good.

Falling down from the heights of that infuriating spiral sand slope is what made me finally put the game to bed. I might be tempted to revisit the game but that's a moment that is skirting the line of unfairness.

I had a somewhat similar experience to you in acquiring this game. Through complete chance I ended up buying this from someone in my class for £2 without being familiar with Kirby before then and I ended up finding one of my favourite games for the Game Boy!

Strangers of Paradise deserves way more credit than it was given. It has among the best realisations of iconic monsters in any Final Fantasy game.
