28/2025 Mannerheim: Marshal of Finland 🇫🇮 A life in geopolitics by Henrik Meinander.

Fascinating biography. I like how the author discussed the historiography, myth, memory of Mannerheim.

This leads to a Cold War focused biography of Urho Kekkonen by Gordon F Sandor

So @dienekes.bsky.social book “Splintered Empires” led me to Henrik Meinander’s “Mannerheim” biography.

Nearly done with it so I’ll start “THE HUNDRED DAY WINTER WAR” by Gordon F. Sandor over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Cats must have a sensor in their brains that alerts them anytime a human sits or lies down.

Me: lies down

What’s everyone reading this weekend?

These, plus a couple chapters a day of Don Quixote. (Still peeved that book gets reduced to “chasing windmills”)

PNW is amazing. Worth it.

Yes I would watch a movie about the Czech Legion fighting across Siberia and the allies landing at Archangel. His style is a page turner

A must on this list. Nearly 800 pages of “I can’t put it down.”

27/2025 The Holy Temple by Boyd Packer.
A colleague loaned me this to understand some of the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Grateful to understand a little bit more about the surrounding community, especially the importance of genealogy / family history for the temple.

The @pittsburghpenguins.bsky.social app is great. Especially for the radio broadcast.

26/2025 Truth to Tell: Notes from my White House Education by Lanny J Davis.

This was a “read a book outside of your comfort zone” pick. No idea how this ended up in my family. I felt a lot of anger reading this.

The advice is sound: just tell the truth and don’t hide it.

25/2025 How to Take Smart Notes by Sönke Ahrens

Mind blown 🤯 Zettelkasten method seems the way to go for me. I’ve already made slip box 🗃️ notes for this book and am seeing connections already.

So many connections to other things I’ve read. (That’s the point.)

Post a perfect album from the 90’s that isn’t Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Alice In Chains.
