In that vein, the proposed experiment could rather be based on priors: Compare people who didn't believe the UTQ will do them any good to those who enter with an open mind. I won't learn anything from anything if I'm busy looking for flaws rather than opportunities. (2/2)

I personally learned a lot in the UTQ that I got paid to do by my faculty @tudelfteemcs.bsky.social. Sure, writing is not fun, but once you accept it as a chance for personal reflection, there is quite a learning potential. (1/2)

Love the optimism! Nowadays, I usually go for "This is a paper. We try to do things, some don't work, but we still find all of this rather interesting and hope you do, too." 😅

Ah, that brings me back to my college year at the Texas A&M International University 😁 Have you tried approaching the students and hearing from them why (or not) they attend the colloquia? (Not that I have high hopes, a similar survey to our students yielded almost no responses. 😟)

A (slightly provocative) question: Is running a lot of things in-person still the way to go? If I think of colleagues with part-time contracts, care-work, other responsibilities, an on-demand or hybrid talk might ease participation thresholds. But I do see the value of direct interaction, of course.

We're seeing the same, also holds for lecture attendance, or people being available in the offices. Before '20, I used to go to the office all 5 weekdays, now I go 3-4 days, so do all PhDs. Seems like a culture change to me. Notably, our pizza seminar is still well attended. 🍕

I had a similar problem with sour dough bread: In summer, it rose nicely, but in the colder months, it just would not work 😫 Hope you find a good solution that provides reliable yogurt🤞
