My article charts the university's historical role as object of and participant in national security, and demonstrates how those roles have manifested since Oct 7 vis a vis efforts to repress and destroy pro-Palestine advocacy, teaching, inquiry etc on university campuses

Both these tendencies - the university's status as an object of nat sec threat as well as participant in nat sec - are part and parcel of the university's decades-long, close relationship with the nat sec state.

Since Oct 7, the university's relationship with the nat sec state has also manifested in university efforts to quash pro-Palestine campus activism, often in the name of generic forms of security but also sometimes in the name of fighting "terrorism"

These allegations have focused on the vocal & vibrant pro-Palestine activism that has mushroomed across campuses since Oct 7. Though these allegations have no legal basis and are grounded in racist tropes, they have been promoted by both public and private actors alike

Since Oct 7, the university's relationship to the national security state has manifested in efforts to treat the university as a site of national security risk - specifically as a site of support for so-called terrorism or terrorist groups.
