I am also a day 1 backer (original KS) and have played more than 15,000 hours of the game...
It may not be released yet, but I think it is safe to say I got more than my money's worth over the years and it just keeps getting better every month.
And as far as a chore to play, just takes brains.

Star Citizen is built on the Star Engine, which is a heavily refactored fork of CryEngine 3. Lumberyard is owned by Amazon, and is a fork of Cryengine 3.8.

As a day one backer and an avid fan who observes everything CIG does. I was more impressed with this year's CitizenCon than ever before.
The reason I was so impressed is because everything they showed was reasonably achievable within the next year versus the hype fest of other years.

For those of us that have been around since the beginning or even been around for years, we are well aware of what ships, weapons, and armor there are available.
For new Citizens, giving them the option of a ship with a full suit and a weapon gives them a solid start.

I expect it to be a 2 hour ISC/SCL where they are going to excite us with their plans for 2956 just like they declared 2955 "The year of stability and playability".
It will be fun to see, but unfortunately nothing is really here until you can interact with it in the game.
