I think that's about right. I'm surprised it actually made a half- decent movie at all. You should check out Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers, as well as the other I mentioned. I liked them so much I've read them a few times over.

I read it a while ago. I wasn't wowed, but it was alright. I preferred the movie. The other two in the series I read, but wouldn't have felt I'd missed out if I hadn't. A couple of books I enjoyed a whole lot were Blindsight by Peter Watts, and Light, Nova Swing, & Empty Space by M. John Harrison.
