Centrist. London. Pro EU. Rejoiner. Democracy is under threat, not only from the dictators & authoritarians that occupy the planet, but also from within existing democracies. Private power + wealth is being used to overturn & threaten our democracy.
FDR predicted what the US has now. A dangerous place for democracy.

Ofcom are so bloody slow. I complained last month about a tv programme and apart for an email acknowledgement, I've heard nothing since. How hard can it be to make a judgement on a 30 second clip from a political show?.

It is and, as you say there is an appointments panel to the Board. The only person to sit on the Board and panel is the Chairman, Lord Faulks. So, the Board doesn't fill itself up with other Board members like the BBC does. It's a better system.

I wouldn't hold much hope of an efficient Ofcom, no matter who is in the Chair. They 'reprimand' newspapers for repeat offences and that's all. I'd scrap Ofcom and set up a new regualtary body with increased powers, especially the use of financial penalties for wayward lying newspapers.

The system is not perfect, especially when the Tories were in office for 14 years, which produced a conveyor belt of their appointees dominating the BBC. The Board has too much power. The 4 who are appointed by the Govt, appoint all the other Board members. That should be done independently.

I see that it was 'MSNBC', which has been renamed 'MS Now'. It looks like there are changes going ahead in 2026 to 'Versant', which owns 'MS Now'. The company is being spun-off to their shareholders. Maybe, when the dust has settled, they may go worldwide, like CNN etc.

Spot on. They want Trump 2 for the UK.

Current BBC Board updated.

I assume that time will solve their problem. The DG & CEO have gone. All that's left is the BBC Board & they are all due for replacement before the end of 2028. The catch is, the Board appoint the DG, so we may see another Tory appointee, before they go. It will be interesting to see who is chosen.

Indirectly, that's true. I don't understand the popularity of Reform. The power of the media, has a corrosive effect on the people of the UK.

The problem is, some of it sticks to the other mud slung by the right-wing media. They know what they're doing and why they're doing it. It's nothing short of a co-ordinated campaign against Reeves and Starmer, in particular.

A small number of newspaper and TV station owners, dictate the narrative, which is to get the Labour Govt. out and install a mob of right-wing spiffs and crooks, who will govern on behalf of private money and power.

After 14 years of the last Tory regime, the BBC is not what it was. It has been suborned and penetrated by a mindset that suited the right-wing Tory Govt. The top, still has that mindset and it's not getting any better, with ex-GB News people now appointed to senior positions in the BBC.
